ABOUT MONO MOON

MONO MOON is a private tattoo studio, co-founded in 2020 by POC female artists – Sai Li and Mariel Bayona. Our mission is to create a safe space where we embrace diversity and creativity, while focusing on creating tattoos that can make both clients and ourselves feel proud.

Sai Li was born and raised in northern mainland China. After graduating from Tsinghua University with a BA in 2D animation in 2012, she moved to the US in summer 2013 for her MFA degree in Studio Art at San Francisco Art Institute. She started tattooing in early 2018. Currently she mainly focuses on figurative, female, anime/manga themes to embrace her inner nerd.

Mariel Bayona is from the border of El Paso, TX and Cd. Juárez, Mexico. She moved to the US in 2008 in the pursuit of a Bachelors in Fine Arts and Art History, which she earned in 2012. That same year she moved to San Francisco where she got her MFA in Sculpture in San Francisco Art Institute in 2014. She started her tattooing venture in 2018 and she embraces her fascination for botanica, mythology and all sorts of animalia.

MONO MOON has been founded with the intention of empowering women and POC in any form of medium and venture since we live in a male dominated culture; especially with tattoo being a male-dominated industry. We dream to create a space where people can feel welcome, safe, and well taken care of regardless of their race, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and cultural background. We aim to provide our clients a calm and soothing tattoo experience.
